About
Bratislava, Slovakia, July 7, 2007 – a small group of expats chat at a dinner party about their lack of inspiring ideas for quick easy family-friendly menus. They lament that they find themselves frozen in foreign supermarkets when confronted with unfamiliar foods and spices. That chat led to this blog whose intention is to share recipes so that we may feel inspired to cook locally on a daily basis.
We are hoping you will contribute a recipe that you have made with ease and which most members of your family enjoy. The recipe you submit will have ingredients that can be found locally in Slovakia or nearby in Austria. If the ingredient is not commonly available, you could tell us where to shop for it. Recipes will be organized according to the main ingredient. You will see categories listed to the right on the home page.
Lastly, we have a shopping list category which will come from a featured parent who will share their shopping list and some menu suggestions.
Bon Appetit!

This is a great idea–truly an inspiration. Thanks so much and I look forward to being a “regular.”

I agree — I like this idea. I think I’m going to make the key lime pie tonight. I have some awesome recipes to post once I come back home to Bratislava (I’m in the U.S. right now).
